Is this wise? 850 T5 for 960 2.5 V6

Hi, Estates usually commmand a premium price over saloon versions of all models.. They are after all the load luggers of the world...! Is the V6 a 3.0 or 2.5 (don't know all the engines that well!!) as I suspect that you will be using more fuel in the 960 over the T5.. Given you know that you'll be using more fuel (and carrying a load will mean you use extra anyway) the 500 you are paying doesn't seem so bad.. But, you'll need to check the car out carefully before making your mind up.. V6 Man will be able to point out particular points to look for. Des. . . ;)

The 960 I thought was a straight six the old 260 and 760 were a V6.

the early 960s were v6, before about `93 i believe rupert will be here any minute.....................................

if its a 2.5 its a straight six !!! 91-92 i believe was the intro year , having got a j reg 3 litre engine in the workshop .

The 960 was introduced in 1991 with the B6304F 204bhp, 3.0l, 24v, straight 6 engine. However, due to a shortage of these new engines some markets (not the Uk) recieved the older B280F 170bhp, 2.8l, 12v, V6 carried over from the 760 but by mid 1992 all 960's had the straight 6 24v. In late 1994 a 2.5l version of the same engine (B6254F) with 170bhp was introduced in non US markets along with the option of a manual gearbox. The US had a detuned (180bhp due to different cams) version of the B6304 offering improved mid range torque at the expense of top end power. The B6254 was dropped in 1996 and the range continued with both versions of the B6304 in all markets. So your 960 could concieveably have a V6 if it is a 1991/2 model although in all probability it would have been an import (probably from Italy). Otherwise is it definately a straight 6.

It is possible, but higly doubtful, especially as you have a 1996 car that is supposedly 2.5 litres and fitted with a manual gearbox. The only V6 ever fitted to the 960 was the 2.8 litre B280 and that was in 1991/early 1992 and was never offered with a manual gearbox. Infact the only manual B280 that I know of in the Uk is mine and that was a homemade conversion. Does the engine have a black rocker cover with 'Volvo 24v' in raised silver lettering? If so it is a straight 6.

Nope. Its all black, reason I'm confused is its shaped like a V (3 cylinders on each side) but is in line as straight would be. I am a girl so a doh is in mind:speechless-smiley-6
