How do I preamp my VST drums

Greetings friends. I watched Kenny's video on using preamps on the in channel. I loaded a preamp on the in of my EZ drummer track so I could set the track recording level like in Kenny's video (Proper Recording Levels in REAPER)...Shit don't work though. So my question is, does the input channel effects work for VST plug-ins or only from my audio interface? Is there a way to input effect a VST?

Why would you want to input FX a vst. Track FX it.

You can't increase the output of the EZ Drummer plugin from inside it? If all you are trying to do is boost the gain of it to get it at a decent level for printing it to audio, you should be able to do that like you can here in Superior Drummer: But even the default plugin output of 0.0 dB is more than enough as a record level with 24-bit recording. You could print that to audio then use the Item Volume to increase it further if you needed to. I wouldn't use a preamp on the track for what it sounds like you are trying to do.
